Dwarkadhish Temple, also known as the Jagat Mandir or the “Temple of the Universe,” is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Krishna and is located in the city of Dwarka, Gujarat, India.

The Dwarkadhish Temple is famous for several reasons, including:

I) Its religious significance: The temple is an important pilgrimage site for Hindus and is considered one of the four major pilgrimage sites in India, along with Rameswaram, Puri, and Badrinath.

II) Its architectural beauty: The temple’s architecture is a mix of Rajasthani and Gujarati styles, and features intricate carvings and sculptures. The temple’s main attraction is the statue of Lord Krishna, which is made of a single block of black marble.

III) Its evening aarti: The temple is also known for its evening aarti, a Hindu ritual of worship, which is attended by thousands of devotees every day.

IV) Its festivals: The temple hosts several festivals throughout the year, including Janmashtami, the birthday of Lord Krishna, and Holi, the festival of colors.

V) Its association with Lord Krishna: Dwarkadhish Temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna, who is considered one of the most revered deities in Hinduism, and is believed by many to have been built by Lord Krishna’s grandson, Vajranabha, over 2,500 years ago.

Dwarka on the western tip of the Kathiawar Peninsula is clubbed with the holiest sites in India – the Char Dhams that include Badrinath, Puri and Rameshwaram. It is believed that Lord Krishna arrived here from Braj in Uttar Pradesh to build the city. The temple was established by his grandson. It is at the cusp of the Gomti River and the Arabian Sea, providing a scenic backdrop to the spiritual site. It is said that Dwarka was submerged under the sea six times and what we see now is its seventh avatar. The temple itself has a fascinating legend. The original structure was destroyed by Mahmud Begada in 1472, and subsequently rebuilt in the 15th-16th century. It was also feted by Adi Shankaracharya, the 8th century Hindu theologian and philosopher.
