Holi is one of the most popular Hindu festivals celebrated in India. It is also known as the festival of colours and love. Holi is observed every year in the month of March by the people of the Hindu religion. This is the day when people neglect their problems or any misunderstanding with someone who wants to resolve them.
As the icon goes, “Holi is called after Holika” the sis of brutal king Hiranya Kashyap. The king declared himself to be all-powerful and supreme and should be worshipped by all. On the other hand, his son Prahlad was a true devotee of Lord Vishnu, not the king. Holika was divined not to be burnt in a fire. The king wanted to make his son dead so he asked Holika to sit on fire with his son but what the king wanted does not happen as Prahlad came out from the bonfire but Holika was burnt. Thus Holi marks the success of virtuous over immoral.
On the eve of these festivities, an enormous bonfire is lit in several parts of the country to mark the flaming of bad spirits.
On the day of Holi, the whole country turns red, yellow, green, purple as people play with colours and throw water on one another.
In short, Holi develops intimacy and comradeship. It also brings coordination and cheerfulness to the country.
