The Taj Mahal is a pearly – white marble tomb on the southern bank of the Yamuna river, in the city of Agra. It was built in the year 1632-53 by Shah Jahan for his loving wife Mumtaz Mahal. Taj Mahal is known for its glorious beauty. Tourist from across the world visits India to see the artistry of Taj Mahal.

An amazing fact of the Taj Mahal is that it changes colours all around the day. During daylight, it seems to be pale pink, in the afternoon, it is fizzy white and in the evening, it rotates a brownish-orange as the sunsets. End of the day it seems to be bluish in colour.

It was garnished with 28 types of expensive and semi-precious gemstones. Taj Mahal was built around 20 years. Shah Jahan consumed 32 million rupees to build this cherished tombstone. Taj Mahal does not open for tourists every Friday due to the Jumu’ah prayer. Graves of both Shah Jahan and Mumtaj are buried in the Taj Mahal. Around 6-8 million people visit the Taj Mahal per annum.

It is also known as one of the seven wonders of the world. The story behind it is Shah Jahan’s endless love for his beloved wife ‘Mumtaz’.
