Kalpana Chawla was an American astronaut on the and first lady of Indian genesis to go to space. She was born on 17th March in Karnal, India, but her official date of birth was changed to 1st July. She belonged to a middle-class family. She was very curious to learn about space from her childhood.

She shifted to the United States in 1982 where she got a master of science degree from the University of taxes at Arlington in 1984. After becoming a UN native in April 1991, she appealed for the NASA Astronaut corps. In March 1995, she joined the corps and got selected for her first flight in 1996. Kalpana was the first Indian woman and second Indian person for a space tour.

After Challenger, the Columbia mission was the second space shuttle disaster that included seven Astronaut including Kalpana Chawla, who was representing India. On the 1st of February 2003, this mission leads to a failure as the space shuttle Columbia broke up while returning into the Earth’s atmosphere. After two years it was investigated a tragedy.

Kalpana Chawla was awarded the Congressional space medal of Honour, NASA spaceflight medal etc. for her supplement to space and science. Hence, Kalpana’s hard work and determination is an inspiration for every girl, also Donald Trump calls Kalpana Chawla American Hero.
