Mahatma Gandhi: Father Of The Nation.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born in Porbandar, India, on October 2, 1869. His father name was Karamchand Gandhi who was (chief minister) of the Porbandar state and his mother’s name was Putlibai who is a housewife. Mahatma Gandhi was an extraordinary leader of the world’s first successful nonviolent movement for independence.

Here are some interesting facts about how he helped in making India independent:

❖ He tried to make khadi popular. Khadi was popularized as a symbol of self-reliance. This made Indians use Indian clothes instead of foreign ones and by 1919 he had become the most popular leader in India.
 
❖ In 1920 A Non-cooperation was started under the leadership of Gandhiji. The movement aimed at protesting against British repression in Punjab.

❖ The first movement in which Gandhiji involved was Champaran Satyagraha in 1917 in Bihar. It was 2 farmers rebellion that took place in the Champaran district of Bihar. He was God Fearing person. During foreign rule, the role played by Mahatma Gandhi on the stage of Indian politics is memorable in those blustery days of the Indian struggle for Indian independence. Gandhiji suffered a lot and was several times put in jail but freedom of his motherland remained his cherished aim.

❖ He led many freedom struggles and launched the “Quit Indian movement” which made India independent. His tragic death on 30th January 1948, plunged the whole nation into darkness. His death left a great emptiness in the life of the nation. The whole nation still loves and respects this veteran of the twentieth century who has left and an indelible mark on the sands of time.
