Here are some interesting facts about A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.

Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam is the full name of Abdul KALAM. He was the greatest aerospace scientist and politician who served India as the 11th president from 2002 to 2007. He was born on 15th October 1931 in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu and studied Physics and aerospace engineering. He belonged to a lower-middle-class family. His father Jainulabdeen was a boat owner and Imam of a mosque and his mother was a housewife in his four brothers and one sister he was the youngest one.

He was a very brilliant and hard-working student from his childhood. He had a powerful desire to learn everything. After finishing his schooling at the Schwartz Higher Secondary school, Ramanathapuram, Kalam joined Saint Joseph’s College, Tiruchirappalli, then associated with the University of Madras, where he qualified in physics in 1954 and shifted to Madras to learn aerospace engineering at Madras institute of technology.

He was popularly known as the Missile Man of India for his huge contribution to the nation’s civilian space program and Military Missile development. In 1998 he made a remarkable contribution to India’s Pokhran-2nd. He also contributed to the development and operationalisation of Agni and Prithvi missiles. He also served the country as the chief scientific advisor to the PM and secretary of the DRDO.

Kalam was granted the PADMA BHUSHAN award in 1981, PADMA VIBHUSHAN in 1990 and BHARAT RATNA in 1997. Kalam leads a simple life. He had no property in his name. He always inspired children and youth to think big. So we can say that he was a man of “simple living and high thinking”. He left us on 27th July 2015 in Shilling due to a heart attack. Some books and respect from the whole world was his precious property.
